apparently this is old news, but i wasn't really aware of it. i kept seeing this sign in the bus so i thought i'd look it up.

i have mixed feelings on it. granted, maybe i shouldn't have any feelings on it since it will never apply to me. on the one hand, yeah, its good that some babies might get saved from dying of exposure.

on the other hand, its sad that we have yet another official policy that fails to hold people accountable for their actions. its effectively telling women that if they do something dumb, we won't hold them accountable or responsible. please, go get pregnant, and drop off the newborn at a hospital, there are zero consequences. i'm sick of this reactionary legislation - when are we going to pass some proactive laws? the ones that say hey, think before you act, because every choice you make is entirely your responsibility and we aren't going to bail you out for being stupid.

does my idea mean more babies might die? i'm sure it does. i'd rather make people own up to their own decisions though. we might as well pass a law that allows people to bring in the body of someone they accidentally killed, without any consequences, because hey, at least they didn't go bury it somewhere!

[note: i'm sure there are myriad angles and other considerations i haven't made here]

I didn't read the link, but I'm totally with you on people taking responsibility for their actions, especially regarding babies and getting pregant.

It should be a privilege, not a right in my opinion.

Giving up a child for adoption is still legal and zero consequence (legally) for the mother. So really, the option is already there. This just stops people who are afraid of going to the hospital, women who give birth after avoiding the pregnancy (therefore already have problems outside of just having a kid) etc.

But I agree. I'm actually all for mandatory birth control. But I'm a bitch.
