I'm seriously considering boycotting movies made by mega-studios,… - Speak Friend and Enter
Grammar and Lord of the Rings
I'm seriously considering boycotting movies made by mega-studios, i.e. everything that does not play at the little artsy theaters. Why? I was reading today about "Pearl Harbor" the latest blockbuster spearheaded by Michael Bay (he of "The Rock" and "Armageddon").....and I found myself feeling good that I wanted to vomit at how easily some of the dollar amounts were being thrown around. I want to take this opportunity to thank Ben Affleck for working for just a fraction of his normal $12 MILLION FUCKING ASKING PRICE. Apparently he was only paid $250,000 for his role now, and will recoup a ton when the movie goes on to make zillions of dollars. Wow, I dunno what I would do if I only got $250,00 for a few months' work...I mean, how do you live on that???? The final budget for the film was something like $135 million dollars. That is just fucking ridiculous, I'm sorry. What I don't get is why nobody raises an eyebrow at that but if some baseball team wants to pay Alex Rodriguez $250 million to play for them over like 10 years, when a baseball season goes on for months and months of nearly every day play, everybody starts complaining about pro athlete salaries. Is he worth it? Hell no. I remember reading once about how a guy laid out exactly how Deion Sanders was worth the $X million he was being paid. I couldn't believe it. Good god, all this money is floating around and life just gets worse.

I can't think of a better reason right now for why I think all men are inherently evil..

Naturally, I will make exceptions. American Beauty, Fight Club, et al. Movies that have something to say. But I won't be going to movie theaters much anymore. Especially not they way they rape you these days with nearly $9 for the movie, and oh, hope you didn't want to have anything left over for a soda, that's another $21. I'm also talking about DVDs and videos. I have no desire to contribute to the furthering of this shit. It's probably something silly, but I think it's about time I take a stand on something and stick with it.

Fuck you, Hollywood.

i don't think i was saying anything about bringing the movie machine to its knees. i'm sure most people don't really care. good for them. it bothers me, so i'm going to act on it.

i'm also not saying that i have things so bad. it bugs me that i have to depend on my paychecks to get from month to month without having anything left over, sure, but hey that's life for a college student. what gets to me is that all this money floats around for worthless purposes when kids are freaking starving on the street. i'm trying not to take a defeatist attitude on something for once.
