There seems to be this trend of recommending using certain behaviors and such in a man's life for the express purpose of attracting women. Like, if a guy does this, and has variety in this, then his chances are better. I have major issues with that. I am who I am, and there are very good reasons for that. I am not about to do things differently just to be more attractive to a large group of women. My mom harped on me for a while to expand my listening preferences from more than just metal (and mostly death metal) because "girls don't like that kind of thing" or other such nonsense. If she doesn't, there's not a good chance I want to spend a lot of time with her, because that's what is playing in my stereo most of the time. I guess I just want to say that being true to oneself is incredibly important in life. (In case you're wondering why I launched into this, I was reading something at www.askmen.com and it can be about as ridiculous as shit like Maxim and Gear and Stuff and the rest of that garbage)

Cool girls do like metal!

Tell your mom that there are chicks out there (ahem, me!!!) that love listening to metal and not much else, but are still openminded. Black and death metal!!!!:] Just no false brutal death metal.

Re: Cool girls do like metal!

I just don't get how any kind of death metal can be false. I really don't. When I think of false metal, I think of Pantera, because not only do they do it because it sells and not because it's in them, but they're successful at it. No death metal band in the history of the world has been uber-successful. It's just not something you do to be trendy....on the other hand, I admit that trendiness does exist in metal, even death metal. See: all Dying Fetus-clones. It wasn't until I heard them that I realized what the rest of these "we are so ultra-brutal" bands were doing. Here's a list of bands, tell me what you think if you've heard of them:

Cryptopsy
Dying Fetus
Pyrexia
Pessimist
Nile
Krisiun
Sinister

OK, not all mega brutal, but I think it gets the point across well enough. Maybe I'm arguing with a brick well, I dunno.

Re: Cool girls do like metal!

You know exactly what I'm talking about now! Yes, Dying Fetus blow... the same with a band called Mortician. They're "br00tal death metal" too. Cryptopsy... trash cans... the same with the rest except Krisiun. I don't know about Sinister. Oh yeah, Pantera... they did make it big, but they are still pretty cool. I don't know why I think of that. I'm not a huge fan, but I still do like their music. No matter how famous or whatever they become. :]

Re: Cool girls do like metal!

Except I don't think Dying Fetus blow! They're not the greatest band ever, and I can point out flaws, but I like 'em. Cryptopsy single-handedly raised the bar for extreme metal. Kickass writing, and awesome vocal delivery (at least on the first 2) makes for some serious audio punishment. What makes Krisiun so special? They, of all on that list, get the most monotonous. Which is usually the problem of lesser bands like Six Feet Under and Cannibal Corpse.

As for Pantera...well, to me, integrity plays a big role with music, and Pantera have about zero. They play whatever is popular, or what makes them cool in the metal arena. Phil is a fucking fraud and nobody realizes it. That's the truth. I'm not saying you shouldn't listen to them for that reason, but I can't stand a band who is so full of shit.

Re: Cool girls do like metal!

Maybe you're right about Pantera, but I don't know of them playing what everybody else wants though!... As for Krisuin, I don't know what makes them special.. I just like them. I guess it's just something everybody has a taste for. I have a Six Feet Under CD, Alive and Dead and usually use it for a coaster. As for Cannibal Corpse, Butchered at Birth is good... I don't know anything of their other material except for Hammer Smashed face.

There's a Pantera concert soon, but I can't afford to go. I'm going to Cradle of Filth on Saturday... if that counts.

*sigh*. I sorta pawned my Death compilation because I needed cigarettes and a text book for an assignment due yesterday, but I did like it.

So... why does your mommy think I'm not a girl?
*looks kinda upset*

you probably read the other comments, so I won't launch yet again into my feelings on Panty-era. :) i've got no real problems with CoF. haven't heard much by 'em, but they're bad mouthed a lot by elitists (of which I can be at times).

I'm seeing Monstrosity on Sunday. YESSSS!!!!!! Oh, and between now and the end of June, Nevermore, Opeth, Napalm Death, Diecast, Deicide, Gorguts...the list goes on.

Death compilation? As in that "Best of" album for the band Death or a death metal compilation?

When it comes to my mom....I think both her and my dad are struggling to deal with the fact that I am very different from the little four-eyed nerd that grew up as the "good" kid and let my twin sister cause most of the stress for them. It's mostly that they're just ignorant about metal, like most people. To me, not only is it cool when a girl listens to metal just because I like it too, but I think it shows some intelligence because not everyone can appreciate it for what it is. I could probably write several entries on reflections on my growing up in that household.

I suppose as long as I don't have Overkill play my wedding, things will be OK. Hee hee. :)

death

Death compilation: "Death is just the Beginning IV" was the one I had: a double CD with covenant, dimmu borgir, and a whole heap of other cool stuff on it. 50% was unreleased music. eep.

damn the poverty level!

I have a friend who wants Taiko Brae (sp?) to play when she, and the guy she's handfasted to, get married.
