Since it seems that I'll be up for a while....
I went and saw AC/DC perform tonight at the good ol' Arco Arena, home of the 3rd-seeded Kings and opponents of Phoenix in the first round. Now, I'm not a hardcore fan of the band. There are usually 2 things I do at a concert to enjoy it - a) sing along to every song and every single word because i know them all (e.g. a Weird Al concert) or b) since I know the music, I spend my time thrashing around (e.g. Testament, Psypheria). Tonight was different. I don't really know much of AC/DC's lyrics other than the choruses and bits and pieces, and the only songs I really recognize are the ones played on the radio. Admittedly, that covers like 20, most of which were played tonight, but for me, normally that's not enough to get me to go to a show. However, this is a band that has been around for 20 years and quite possibly will call it quits soon, so I definitely didn't want to miss this. And I'm glad I didn't. There is something about thousands of people pumping their hand in the air and singing "....DONE DIRT CHEAP!!" that makes me smile. The stage show was just right without being too elaborate. Cool flame effects for Highway to Hell, cannons for For Those About to Rock (We Salute You), and a giant blowup Rosie for the song of the same name. The thing I remember most is the image of humping hippos during "Hard As A Rock" played on the video screen. That could be a new game....Humping Humping Hippos. Anyway.....for a guy that is probably 50+, Angus Young is quite a performer. I can't imagine how he goes out night after night for over 2 hours and not just play, but run around and generally never spend more than 4 seconds in the same spot. I'm also disgusted that a guy over twice my age is in better shape than I've ever been. I suppose if that's not motivation for you, then nothing is. Before tonight, I would have held to the notion that AC/DC has basically written several variations of the same song for the last 2 decades, but if you really listen, everything in the last 12 years or so is much more similar sounding than what was made before that. I think. It's been a few years since I first went to a concert at Arco. That was Smashing Pumpkins with Garbage, and the only reason I went is because my dad backed out. They were pretty much my sister's favorite two bands and my dad agreed to go, but I ended up going for some reason. This was a better show IMO. Enough rambling.

I don't confess to being a hardcore AC/DC fan either but I respect them for what they do. If someone's getting enjoyment out of it then that's perfectly fine. I mean 20 years, most bands can only dream about that. Nowadays bands seem to be getting signed because they can produce a few catchy songs and the rest of the album just sucks.

I salute you!!!

Wow!! ... that's so cool that you got to see them! They are at the top of my list of all time favorite bands. I just completely love them... and really do wish I could have saw them live here when they were here a month ago in Orlando. I hope you treasured the moment, I tryed to win tickets to that concert so many times... ahh... :]
